Total Eclipse - August 21, 2017
Safety first! On Monday August 21, the moon will pass between the sun and Earth and cast 70-mile-wide shadow (totality path) across the United States. Most of the country, however, will observe a partial solar eclipse. To enjoy this event safely, everyone needs to wear a pair of eclipse safety glasses that meet requirements for ISO 12312-2:2015, intended for direct observation of the sun. NEVER look directly at the sun without appropriate eyewear. Regular sunglasses are not safe to view the eclipse, no matter how brief a glimpse. None of the 11 MSG offices are in the path of totality, but our clients, friends, family and employees in Ohio and Michigan will see substantial coverage (weather permitting). The next eclipse to cut through the U.S. will be on April 8, 2024. For more eclipse information and interactive map visit NASA’s site.
Show Me The Money!!!
Local government budgets are very tight these days for community infrastructure projects, and finding non‑local funds to implement projects is critical. Did you know that The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. (MSG) has folks that are specialized in finding money from various funding programs and developing funding strategies for projects? Our grant writers and funding strategists are available to help you develop a funding strategy to make projects on your “wish list” become reality by finding funds to make them happen! MSG has had a great 2017 so far in securing funds from various State and Federal grant programs for our local government/agency clients. As of the end of July, our grant folks had secured nearly $8 Million in funding for seven (7) different local governments/agencies (and hopefully more awards coming in October)! These funds have been secured for various items such as a roundabout project; a roadway reconstruction project; a traffic signal corridor upgrade; a multiuse path; a habitat restoration for an instream-nearshore project; and several site cleanups of underground storage tanks of abandoned gas station locations. We have been tracking our funding successes since 2000, and our current tally company-wide is over $129.3 Million in grants/loans that have been secured for our clients. If you have a project on your community’s wish list that everyone wants to happen, but there just is not enough local money available to make it move forward, please contact us and we will pull together the proper MSG grant writers and funding strategists to research the potential non‑local funding programs that may be worth pursuing to move your project forward!
Breastfeeding Awareness Month
August is Breastfeeding Awareness Month – MSG supports moms in the workplace during Breastfeeding Awareness Month – and all year long! We appreciate the recognition of moms like MSG Archaeologist Kate Hayfield, who gave a “shout out to MSG for being an amazingly supportive workplace who offered me nothing but encouragement and a safe space to pump when nursing.” Thank you Kate! http://www.usbreastfeeding.org...
