MSG in the Defiance Crescent News

MSG, under contract with the City of Defiance, facilitated the recent Maumee River Basin Partnership of Local Governments (MRBPLG) Mayor's Summit to reinvigorate the MRBPLG group. MRBPLG, formed a couple decades ago, has been inactive for the past year or so and there was a strong desire by local governments in the area to re-engage MRBPLG to advocate for solutions to watershed impairments and management issues. MSG worked closely with the City of Defiance for many months to plan the summit, invite guest speakers as well as guests, and lead the half-day meeting. Feedback from the day was very positive and the event made front page of the Defiance Crescent News. If you have relationships with local governments in the Maumee River Basin who could benefit from being part of the MRBPLG partnership, please contact us.

Employee Spotlight: Jim Broadway

"There's nothing that can match Broadway for stature and dignity." – Sammy Davis Jr.

We at MSG agree whole-heartedly with this sentiment as we celebrate Jim Broadway's 36 ½ -year anniversary with the company. Jim began his tenure with us on a sunny Tuesday in July 1979. A soft-spoken man with a penchant for technology, mathematics, history and the great outdoors, he was born to be a surveyor. Throughout his career he has held a variety of positions related to his craft (i.e. field survey guy, office survey guy, etc.) and we value his expertise on all boundary, topographic and alignment issues. If you've ever wondered about your place in the world, Jim can put you on the map! Land Surveying is crucial to responsible land development, so Jim is a valuable resource at MSG and he plays a major role in our firm's successes. Jim, we thank you for your decades of dedication!

HEN-17C Bridge Featured in Contech's 2016 Calendar

Designed by MSG, the HEN-17C bridge in Henry County, Ohio, will be featured by bridge supplier, Contech, in their 2016 nationally published calendar. This picturesque bridge is part of the Buckeye Trail and crosses the old Miami and Erie Canal in the Village of Florida, Ohio, adjacent to the Maumee River. HEN-17C was designed for construction during the summer months using Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) techniques since the detour routes are in the range of 20 miles and the bridge is on a school bus route. MSG bridge engineers worked closely with Henry County and Contech in designing the structure, which is supported on piles driven to bedrock due to poor canal bed soil conditions and includes steel railings designed to resemble canal lock gates.

Boxing Out Hunger for Cherry Street Mission

MSG's Maumee office ended its fall food drive for their Community Engagement Charity, Cherry Street Mission, on Friday, November 6th, with an all-out, winning effort by the Geoenvironmental Group. Cherry Street Mission's Box Out Hunger campaign solicits donations for holiday food boxes to ensure needy families enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving feast and MSG's donations will help to make that a reality.

The Geoenvironmental Group had to go all out to defeat the powerhouse Transportation Group. A pickup truck full of more than 1,000 cans of green beans and corn and a table full of yams and instant potatoes put the Geoenvironmental Group over the top in a last ditch effort that stunned the office and shattered the Transportation Group's dreams of another victory.

"If this doesn't do it  nothing else will," commented Geoenvironmental's Wes Speiser as he unveiled the canned goods in his pickup truck barely an hour before the contest ended. The Transportation Group took the victory in stride and congratulated the victors in a contest that resulted in the collection of 1,585 cans of corn and green beans, 154 cans of yams, and 71 boxes of instant potatoes for the food boxes. An additional 29 canisters of coffee were also collected for the Mission's soup kitchen. http://www.cherrystreetmission...
